Pre-K2

We offer this program for children whose birthdates fall too late for them to be admitted to kindergarten when they complete their Pre-K 1 program. The Pre-K 2 program builds upon skills and knowledge already attained, and raises the expectation of student performance identified in Benjamin Bloom's three domains of learning—cognitive, affective and psychomotor.

In Pre-K2, children are encouraged to explore, experiment and learn in preparation for kindergarten. They will discuss major events in a story, draw conclusions based on observations, and will apply and adapt appropriate strategies for problem solving.

Language and Literacy

Your child will continue to make letter and sound connections through reading and writing and will begin to make connections between the stories read in the classroom and his or her own life.

Wellness

Continuing to use the award-winning SPARK program, your child will develop fine and gross motor skills by taking part in age-appropriate dance and athletic activities.

Mathematics

Through small group, whole group and individual instruction, your child will explore addition and subtraction, complex sequencing, patterns and graphs. Your child will be encouraged to explain how he or she solved a problem.

Music

At this age, your child will explore tempo, tone and volume of a variety of sounds. Using critical thinking skills, your child will listen to and respond to music of various cultures.

The World and Me

Your child has now reached the age where he or she is conscious of actions and is capable of apologizing with understanding. Teachers will ask your child to participate in the rule-making process and take an active role in the classroom decision-making and management.

Art

Through modeling and discussion, your child will be encouraged to move from stick figures to more detailed figures and complex pictures when responding to a shared experience. Your child will be asked to use art to express thoughts and ideas in journals.

Spanish

This is the culminating year of the Spanish program for preschool children. Instruction is more focused, with the emphasis on functional use of the language. Your child will be exposed to stories and activities that are almost entirely in Spanish.

My Community & Environment

Your child will take a close look at traditions producing simple maps of familiar places and identifying people significant to our history. As your child participates in more complex experiments he or she will learn to predict, graph and analyze data.
